Temperature in relativistic fluids

چکیده
For static matter in a gravitational field, different conventions for equilibrium local temperature exist the classic physics literature. We illustrate difference between two popular using black-body radiation spherically symmetric potential. Equilibrium temperatures defined by "Landau frame" or "Eckart prescriptions most commonly used relativistic fluid dynamics do not satisfy statistical-mechanical relation $1/T=dS/dE$.

Temperature Evolution Law of Imperfect Relativistic Fluids
The first-order general relativistic theory of a generic dissipative (heatconducting, viscous, particle-creating) fluid is rediscussed from a unified covariant frame-independent point of view. By generalizing some previous works in the literature, we derive a formula for the temperature variation rate, which is valid both in Eckart’s (particle) and in the Landau-Lifshitz (energy) frames. Partic...
متن کاملSimple waves in relativistic fluids.
We consider the Riemann problem for relativistic flows of polytropic fluids and find relations for the flow characteristics. Evolution of physical quantities takes especially simple form for the case of cold magnetized plasmas. We find exact explicit analytical solutions for one-dimensional expansion of magnetized plasma into vacuum, valid for arbitrary magnetization. We also consider expansion...
متن کاملMultidimensional simple waves in fully relativistic fluids
A special version of multi–dimensional simple waves given in [G. Boillat, J. Math. Phys. 11, 1482-3 (1970)] and [G.M. Webb, R. Ratkiewicz, M. Brio and G.P. Zank, J. Plasma Phys. 59, 417-460 (1998)] is employed for fully relativistic fluid and plasma flows. Three essential modes: vortex, entropy and sound modes are derived where each of them is different from its nonrelativistic analogue. Vortex...
متن کاملAction functionals for relativistic perfect fluids
Action functionals describing relativistic perfect fluids are presented. Two of these actions apply to fluids whose equations of state are specified by giving the fluid energy density as a function of particle number density and entropy per particle. Other actions apply to fluids whose equations of state are specified in terms of other choices of dependent and independent fluid variables. Parti...
متن کاملOn Hyperbolic “Theories” of Relativistic Dissipative Fluids
It is argued that, at least for the case of Navier-Stokes fluids, the so-called hyperbolic theories of dissipation are not viable. Consider a Navier-Stokes fluid. By this, we mean a substance that, within a certain regime, may be described as follows. First, the local state of the substance must be completely characterized, within this regime, by the values of precisely five fields on space-tim...
